Don’t be fooled by propaganda on Islam

There is an ongoing slander campaign against Islam, claiming that it is a religion that promotes violence and hinting that it seeks world conquest. Before you buy the malarkey that is being produced by people with their own agendas or prejudices or who are just plain ignoramuses, follow these few suggestions.Compare the history of Islam with the history of Europe, which for centuries was called Christendom. An objective look will show you that Christendom wins by a landslide when it comes to violence and wars. After all, Europe and its offspring did not come to dominate the world, including the Islamic countries, because they practiced the gentle virtues of Jesus. As for the common practice of cherry-picking Scripture from holy writings and presenting it out of context, just check out what Christians call the Old Testament. There you will find God advocating a double standard of morality, condoning slavery, ordering the Israelites to commit genocide and committing infanticide himself on a mass scale. I don’t believe you will find anything comparable in the Quran. The word “jihad,” which is so over-used these days, has, like a lot of words, more than one meaning. It means basically to struggle, but this can be personal or spiritual, or a peaceful political struggle. Only if Islam is attacked are Muslims required to defend it. As for that obnoxious propaganda term “Islamo-fascist,” just recall that fascism is a European invention by nominal Christians. To my knowledge, the only fascist governments ever to exist on this planet were all European and nominally Christian.Another canard is that Islam promotes forced conversion. Not so. Even when the Arab empire was expanding, rarely were any of the conquered people forced to convert. The Quran even forbids it, as I recall. Naturally, once Muslims were in charge, a lot of people decided it was in their own self-interest to convert, but this is just one of the sleazy aspects of human nature.I remember when Florida elected its first Republican governor of the 20th century. I saw plenty of people crawl out from under their rocks and convert to the Republican Party, drawn by the smell of patronage. With some rare exceptions, human beings always act in what they perceive, rightly or wrongly, to be in their self-interest.

It was Christian Europe that slaughtered the Jews, and nothing remotely resembling the Holocaust is to be found in the history of Islam. In fact, during the past, when Jews were being persecuted by Christian Europe, they frequently fled to and found sanctuary in the Muslim countries. Until Israel was established, practically every Muslim country had sizable Jewish populations dating back centuries. And there are still Jews and Christians in some Muslim countries.

A final suggestion is that when you hear some individual radical Muslim being quoted, just remember he is one of a billion people and speaks only for himself and his small following. And be wary of the quotations he uses, for they are often deliberately fabricated or distorted.

If Muslims really desired to conquer the world, don’t you think it’s strange that we’ve been living in peace with them for nearly a millennium and a half, except for those times when we attacked them (the Crusades, the European colonial movement and our invasion of Iraq)? Don’t forget either that some of the countries the Bush administration calls allies are themselves Muslim — Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, etc.

You have nothing to fear from Islam. The al-Qaida movement is a tiny percentage of Muslims and wouldn’t be the force it is except for the fact that the Bush administration has gone out of its way to make all of Osama bin Laden’s propaganda become true.

Good post. Problem is that religions are used by Politicians and Religious scholars to promote hatred against each other. Religion is one’s personal choice which must be respected. Bush infact made Al Qaeda strong and pupular with Afghanisation and Iraq invasion.

  2. Carol says:

You may not know this, but God made a new covenant with Jesus. Hence, the New Testament supersedes the Old Testament. Yet the Old Testament illuminates the truths within the New simply because of the dark nature of man. In the new Testament with Jesus there is Revelation (insights) into what God was saying to people in the Old Testament days. Of course, people didn’t listen, because each and everyone has to come to a realisation of their personal sin before the greater glory of God before they can come to truly strive to walk in Christ’s footsteps.

Therefore it is not our duty to dwell in the sins of others, but to be more like Jesus each and every day. Instead of dwelling, He gave His very life so that we can be freed of this weight. He paid our debt.

Your humanity is that part of you that is not like Christ, and to be truly honest, look around you and you will see that actually not one human alive today is walking in His shoes. This is why He said to Peter, get behind me Satan, because this is where we are and belong, only walking in His footsteps.

Knowing Jesus is about a resolution of personal sin and consciousness, not about looking out towards others and pulling their sins before you and God until you make a thick curtain (veil) of it.

Have you ever considered why you pray peace on Mohammed’s head? I pray that you will gain the wisdom that your elders found in these prayers in those days when they made this prayer.

May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God go with you.

Ahmed correct the “Afghanistan”… how did I write Afghanistion.

  4. Carol says:

Well I suppose there _are_ very many Christians, new and old striving every day to walk in Christ’s shoes. Fortunately His standard is clearly defined for the whole world to see, even you probably have insight into this pathway. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

Which, of course, Jesus did, for all of us.

  5. Quran Bible says:

Carol I really don’t understand what you are trying to say but I do know what is written in Old Testament New Testament and Qur’an. Muslims do not pray peace on Muhammad’s head. What they say is Peace Be Upon Him and they say it for all Prophets incuding Moses and Jesus.

  6. Carol says:

Ahh, to all love as Jesus loved us, what a beautiful treasure for this world and gift from God. X X X

  7. Carol says:

Christian’s don’t pray this, Jesus’ Holy Spirit is alive and amongst us. His peace, which surpasses all other understanding, dwells amongst us, in us and works through us. We feel His peace through our whole body. This is because we have given ourselves over to Him to be His body here on earth. It is by his works a man shall be known, but no follower of Christ can chose who stands in Christ’s crowd and chooses to wear the label of a Christian.

Jesus carries all the sins of those who have handed them over to Him, there will always be many in the crowd who chose to hold back, just as there are many on the crowd’s edges who see the behaviour of the crowd. Remember, the behaviour of ‘the crowd’ was recorded in the New Testament, so that men will know, that they too will bay for Christ’s blood. That those who don’t will do nothing to stop Jesus’ crucifixion.

You might think of the process of bringing Jesus into our lives as having our souls washed out of all the burden of sin. Becoming a Christian requires a person to study The Word under Christ’s light and guidance for the rest of our lives, any lesser light is dull and keeps the mysteries of God’s Word hidden, just like the serpent behaves (like so many of the Jewish Rabbis had to be shown too). Hence, we pray for His guidance and His presence. We know His light, we know His Works, we know His Holy Spirit, we feel Him with us.

May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God go with you.

Carol, Checked your website which I believe is working to covert Muslims to Christianity. I have my own God given intelligene and really don’t need someone to explain what is written in Old Testament New Testament and Qur’an. I read them all analyzing the facts and the message without bias.

    Good luck with your Mission.

Thanks for the insightful article. As a former Christian, I had many wonderful Christian friends who were very kind & peace-loving, truly striving to follow the teachings of Jesus (peace be upon him). And as a Muslim for the past 10 years, I am pleased to have met the hundreds of Muslims who are also kind & peace-loving, following the teachings of Muhamad (peace be upon him). I also have Jewish friends who are very angry with the Israeli government & how the Bush administration is demonizing Muslims.

All major religions have the same base – love, kindness to your neighbors, compassion for the poor, yet the right to fight against those who fight you or those who oppress.

However, it is a reality that too many people use religion for their own agenda. Whether demonizing a religion, or claiming to follow God’s direction (implying it’s okay to murder thousands for a certain cause), it’s all a ruse.

Our Creator gave us humans a mind to use; we have to use LOGIC along with our hearts, and not let any PERSON brainwash us from false teachings. No genocide, no starving people, no bombing the innocent – none of these can even begin to be part of any truly “religious” cause, no matter what anyone says to the contrary.

    Peace.
