Denmark`s Mermaid Statue Converts to Islam

The Little Mermaid statue in Denmark’s capital was found draped in Muslim dress and a head scarf Sunday morning, police said.

After receiving a telephone call, officers drove to the site and removed the garments, said Copenhagen police spokesman Jorgen Thomsen.

The Little Mermaid was created by Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen in tribute to Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen. Sitting on a rock at the entrance of Copenhagen harbor since 1913, she draws an estimated 1 million visitors a year, and is occasionally targeted by vandals.

She has been beheaded and doused in paint several times. Four years ago, the statue was blown off its perch by vandals who used explosives.

In 2004, someone put a burqa, the head-to-toe Islamic robe, on the statue along with a sign saying “Turkey in the EU?” in reference to Turkey’s bid to join the European Union.

    Hello!
    Are you kidding!!!
What are you Muslims looking for in the heart of free un-religious world?!
You wanna weat scarves and burqua in Europe and gradually change everything we love about it and turn the Europe and its society into the nightmare hell of some Muslim countries?
I am really sorry that we are facing this even in Europe
Why don’t you just go to the “ommol ghora” where this religion belongs?

But I’m asking you again. What’s your goal and ambition in this? Just to serve the God called Allah?

I found this on Google, searching for The Mermaid Statue because I wanted to see what it looked like.
I’m kind of sad that so many people would attack it. I could see why it might be offensive, some people do not agree with nudity. However, I disagree that this would be considered ‘vandalism.’ It was simple to remove, and it did not permanently damage the statue. (Not from what I see anyway.) I don’t see why this would cause so much trouble, although perhaps it was just because I don’t live there, and Islam in general does not frighten me any more than any of the other large organized religions.
Anyway, thought you could use a less… flaming response to this. =)
