Troops Arrest 40 Praying in Mogadishu Mosque (So this is a world-wide move to prevent Muslim prayers?!!)

July 11, 2007

Somali troops raided a mosque in Bullo Hubey neighborhood, south of Mogadishu, the Somali capital, on Tuesday. Witnesses said at least 40 people saying their prayers in the mosques in early morning were arrested.

A witness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was afraid of reprisal, told Shabelle that more than 40 people in the mosque. He said an explosion occurred the area of the mosque, sparking the presence of Somali and Ethiopian forces areas closer to the mosque.

Four policemen and a civilian were wounded last night after insurgents hurled a grenade at the police in Median district, south of the capital Mogadishu.

Witnesses said the police were telling shop owners to close their businesses when the blast occurred.

Abdulahi Moalim, the district commissioner, told Shabelle that that the grenade was hurled at a shopping zone where a large number of residents were shopping in the evening hour when the night-time curfew was about to be observed.

“The police immediately began searching shops and houses nearby to seize the criminals and they are till continuing the investigations and they will find the perpetrators,” he said.

So, this is what happened in Somalia. Yesterday in UK, a Muslim passenger was kicked of a plane and detained for wanting to pray. Are Muslim prayers going to be illegalized? What is terroristic about Muslim prayers?

UK: Muslim passenger kicked off a plane and detained for wanting to pray

July 11, 2007

The recent bombing attempt at Glasgow Airport has started an apparent ripple effect of trepidation. The pilot of a Thomsonfly jet ordered a young man off an aircraft last week, after the man asked permission to pray before the flight commenced, according to a report carried by the Newcastle Sun newspaper. The young Muslim reportedly boarded the flight at England’s Newcastle International Airport, for a trip to Malaga, Spain with a group of friends. He asked the cabin crew for permission to use a curtained-off galley area for prayers before the plane took off.
When the flight attendant asked the captain, the pilot not only removed the young man off the flight… but local authorities were notified and the man was detained and searched under current terrorism laws. Northumbria Police officers found a bottle of water, presumably for traditional pre-prayer cleansing and a compass customarily used to indicate the proper direction to the city of Makkah and a traditional prayer mat. “We were called to the airport… after concerns were raised about a passenger,” said a police spokeswoman. “We attended and searched the man and found that no offense had been committed and everything was in order. The man was not arrested.” The flight, TOM 4125, took off an hour later than its scheduled departure time.

Israeli wall to cut off Jerusalem from West Bank and Israel “as usual” turns a deaf ear to the international community

July 11, 2007

A barrier Israel is building in the West Bank will effectively separate Arab East Jerusalem from the rest of the occupied territory, a report issued yesterday by a UN agency said. Israel’s defense ministry, in charge of the project, had no immediate comment on the report.

Israeli officials have said the barrier, a mix of wire fencing and concrete walls, helps stop Palestinian suicide bombers from reaching Israeli cities.
The report by the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said Israel has completed more than half of a planned 720 km barrier started in 2003 on land it captured in a 1967 war.

In 2004, the World Court said construction of the barrier on occupied land was illegal. Israel has ignored the ruling, the report said. The planned completion of a barrier around a settlement in the Jerusalem area “will separate East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank, restricting access to workplaces, health, education and to places of worship”, the report added.

Another barrier under construction around a settlement bloc near the West Bank town of Bethlehem will isolate a Palestinian cultural area there and “sever Bethlehem from Jerusalem”, the nine-page document said.
Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 conflict and declared all of Jerusalem its eternal and united capital in a move not recognized by the international community. Commenting on other sections of the Israeli barrier, the UN report said the fences and walls would effectively trap some 50,000 of the 2.5 million Palestinians living in the West Bank in a zone between the territory and Israel, reports Reuters. These Palestinians would be unable to access critical services such as schools, clinics and shops in either Israel or the West Bank without special permits, the report said.

It said Israel had tightened procedures to obtain such “visitor” permits, so far granted to only 40 percent of the Palestinian farmers who need them to cultivate land they own on the Israeli side of the barrier.

Opposition to Iraq war hits new high in America

July 11, 2007

Opposition to the Iraq war has climbed to a record high and President George W. Bush’s approval rating dropped to a new low amid growing dissent from members of his own Republican party over his war strategy, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll. Bush’s approval dropped to 29 percent in the poll taken Friday through Sunday, down from 33 percent in early June, USA Today reported today. One in five Americans said the increase in U.S. forces in Iraq this year has made the situation there better while half said it has made no difference, Reuters reported quoting the newspaper.
More than seven in 10 Americans favor withdrawing nearly all U.S troops from Iraq by April, the newspaper said. More than half, 55 percent, said Congress should wait to hear an assessment from Gen. David Petraeus before developing new Iraq policy, the report said. Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, is due to deliver his findings in September, but 40 percent of those polled said Congress should act now, the paper said.
Sixty-two percent of those polled said the United States made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq, marking the first time that number has topped 60 percent in this survey, USA Today said.
The poll also showed support for Bush slipping among Republicans who gave him a 68 percent rating, down from an average 92 percent in his first term and 82 percent earlier in his second, USA Today said. According to the report, nearly four in 10 Republicans cited the immigration debate, which ended in defeat for Bush’s overhaul proposal, as the reason for losing confidence in him. The poll of 1,014 adults, taken Friday through Sunday has an error margin of plus or minus three percentage point.

US ‘meddles in Lebanese affairs’ which means a big fat FIASCO

July 11, 2007

A Syrian daily says all efforts by Arab states to solve Lebanese political crisis would be fruitless unless the US stops meddling in Lebanon.

“Syria thinks that [Arab League Chief] Amr Mussa’s mission will go nowhere unless (US ambassador to Lebanon) Jeffrey Feltham and other ambassadors active in Beirut stop putting” a spanner in the works, an official Syrian newspaper said Tuesday. The ambassadors are undermining Amr Mussa’s mission to hinder Arab efforts, Ath-Thawra said in an editorial a day after a visit by Mussa. The article said those efforts would not lead anywhere unless they were protected from US and Israeli interference, and Arab problems could not be resolved if there was foreign meddling.Mussa called for continued efforts to resolve the political crisis in Lebanon after a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian capital on Monday.

Lebanon has been deadlocked since November when six opposition ministers quit the Prime Minister Fuad Siniora’s US-backed government, charging it was riding roughshod over the power-sharing arrangements in force since the 1975-1990 civil war.

The opposition coalition, led by Hezbollah, insists on formation of a national unity government.

‘New al-Qaeda tape’ is released – CIA says tape is “authentic”, Typical CIA

July 11, 2007
Ayman al-Zawahri

An audio tape said to have been recorded by a senior member of the al-Qaeda network has called for attacks on the US and its allies.

The speaker is identified as Ayman al-Zawahri, Osama Bin Laden’s deputy.

The tape, aired on Arabic television channel al-Jazeera, calls for organised resistance against invading “crusaders” in the Muslim world.

In addition to the US and the UK, the speaker singles out Australia, France, Poland, Norway, South Korea and Japan.

He says the countries cited took part in the invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq or Chechnya and gave Israel “means of survival”.

He also says it is the duty of every Muslim to liberate “Palestine”, and says the West is complicit in the deaths of Palestinian militant leaders.

“In Palestine, we do not only face the Jews, but we also face the global coalition against Islam, led by the crusader and Zionist United States and the crusader West and the agent leaders behind them.”

By the way, I am not saying that the tape is fake. I am not an expert. But you have to read the following  posts before believing or not believing what has been officially reported:

(1) Mossad Agent Pearlman Releases Phony Al-Qaeda Tape.
(2) Proof that Bin Laden had no links with 9/11 and the Bin Laden tape is a hoax! (Video).

(3) No hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11.

UN: Shabaa farms belong to Lebanon (but who cares for the UN?)

July 11, 2007

UN says the controversial Shabaa Farms belong to Lebanon.

The United Nations has declared that the controversial Shabaa Farms, near the Lebanese border, are part of the Lebanese territory.

The UN has transmitted messages to Israel in recent weeks and has declared that the body’s mapping experts have determined that Shabaa Farms now controlled by Israel, are part of Lebanon’s territory, Haaretz unveiled. The UN has urged the Zionist Regime of Israel to withdraw its troops from the farms and has stressed that they should be controlled by the UNIFIL. When the UN marked the border between Israel and Lebanon after Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon in May 2000, the Shabaa Farms were said to be part of Syrian territory, and the Zionist Regime didn’t see any need to withdraw from it in the absence of an agreement with the Syrians. Lebanon did not accept the line of demarcation, and has since claimed that the Shaba Farms are in its territory.Israeli officials have said that the UN cartographer handling the matter in recent months has determined that the area is indeed part of Lebanon. The officials added that Syria and Lebanon also agree that the area belongs to Lebanon. Therefore, the UN has said there is no reason for Israel not to relinquish control over the area.Government officials are treating the matter with kid gloves over concern that a public statement by the UN could lead to renewed conflict in the region.

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has also apparently transmitted the UN’s conclusions in a meeting with the Zionist Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in New York last month.

Now, Shabaa Farms is obviously A Lebanese territory according to the respected, though not respected by Israel, United Nations.

Who thinks that Israel is going to withdraw from Shabaa Farms?

Let me answer this: NO ONE. Not even the UN.
