Geert Wilders, eyes set on banning burqas
A Dutch right-wing anti-Islam politician on Thursday submitted new proposals for a law banning burqas after an earlier attempt stranded.
In letter to parliament Geert Wilders, who heads the Freedom Party which has nine of the 150 seats in the lower house, wrote that “the burqa and the niqab is a symbol of the oppression of women” and is “in defiance of the democratic constitutional state”.
The burqa is a veil covering the entire face and body and a mesh screen to see through, while the niqab is a veil covering the face but leaving the eye area clear. It is not known how many women in the Netherlands wear the face veils but estimates are a few dozen.
Nearly two years ago, in October 2005 a majority of the Dutch parliament voted in favour of a motion by Wilders to ban burqas in public places.
However, the then minister of integration, hardliner Rita Verdonk, never crafted a law for a burqa ban after an advisory committee said such a ban could be unconstitutional because it violated the right to equal treatment for all residents of the country.
Now Wilders, known for his harsh anti-Islam rhetoric, has submitted his own law proposal and hopes the parliament will agree. It is unlikely that he will get another majority as the elections of November 2006 put an end to a centre-right majority in parliament that backed the plans.
Wilders wants to ban specifically burqas and niqabs in public places including stations, stadiums, shops, restaurants, museums, hospitals, cars driving on the public roads and public transports. He proposes a maximum sentence of 12 days in jail or a fine of 3,350 euros (4,619 dollars).
If the law is passed it would be a world first. No national government has yet banned the use of face veils in public places.

In the Churches you can see nice statues and listen to nice pipe organs because as it is the real religion there was made more interesting things in there with many angels that show goodness.

If you want to learn about medicine, law, dentistry or Christianity or so on you go to educational institutions that specialise in those areas, you don’t watch TV or read what it says about it in the newspapers. The same rule applies to Islam!! if you want to learn or know what it really is about then go and ask some knowledgeable person and do not form opinions on half learnt topics but ask questions to satisfy your thirst for knowledge and than come to an informed decision or make an informed opinion.
If you think Islam is evil and teaches hatred just by watching selective and often biased media reports on fanatics and idiots who use Islam as an excuse to achieve their objectives then every religion meets this criteria and every single religion is evil and teaches hatred including Christianity There are bad apples in every society and religion but that does not mean that particular society or religion is bad or evil as whole. Islam is being blamed for the actions of few who do not know Islam themselves than other religions should be blamed for the actions of a few. Why the double standards?
Why Islam is being linked to terrorism just because a bunch of people are committing acts of terrorism in the name of Islam!!!! open relevant history books and you’ll see Christians launched a crusade against Muslims from the early 1011, in which knights and religious Christians including many bishops from all over Europe slaughtered, raped, looted, and deprived millions of Muslims from food n water and all this in the name of Christianity. I ask why Christianity was not and is not blamed for terrorism and acts of mass murder? I know we Muslims did not blame Christianity itself for the heinous crimes of mislead Christians because we know that’s not what Christianity teaches and we love Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him) and believe in him as a Messenger of God.
Islam teaches tolerance for people with different religions and people from different backgrounds. It teaches self respect and respect for others as well as being accountable for your own deeds. In Islam if you kill one innocent human being it is as if you’ve killed the whole of mankind and this is how serious of a crime of killing an innocent human being is.
Islam and Christianity have a lot of similarities, more than you know and think.
@Rogiertje – multiple posts by you suggests just how much garbage has been fed to you and you’re not interested in what Islam really says or is about, but rather what you think and what you wanna say (not listen and learn). Just by keeping a beard you do not become an Imam and just because the western media shows selective stories in which they do not often show Imams who condemn suicide bombers does not means Imam do not condemn them and it is not condemned in Islam.
Like I stated earlier killing of an innocent human being is as if you’ve killed the whole of mankind and these misguided suicide bombers are not only bombing non-Muslims but Muslims too in Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan and so on. We Muslims CONDEMN THEM (YES, THAT’S RIGHT!!!), WE CONDEMN THEM.

Women are not treated like sex slaves and they are actually given more respect and rights compared to Christianity. That’s why more than half of those who convert to Islam are WOMEN!
Muslim women wear Burqas because they want to be treated for who they are, not because of what they look like and they want to be respected and seen as human beings, equal to men, not seen as sex slaves as is the often case here in the west. THIS IS WHY MUSLIM WOMEN WEAR BURQAS!!
I ask how many of you have a Muslim friend or know a Muslim personally? The answer will be probably very few, if any and yet you judge and stereo type Islam based on a few fanatics. This illustrates just how ignorant and stereo typical Europeans are becoming.
I am a Law student in England and I am glad to say that fanatic, Islamaphobic and inciter of religious hatred, Geert Wilders has been kicked out from our country!!
