Veils will not be banned in schools, ministers have decided. Guidelines issued by the Government yesterday state that heads “may be justified” in outlawing religious dress that covers pupils’ faces. But ministers stopped short of issuing an outright ban on full-face Islamic veils, saying it was up to schools to decide uniform policy for themselves.
Yesterday’s updated guidance follows the case of a 12-year-old girl whose campaign to be allowed to wear the niqab at her Buckinghamshire school was rejected by the Law Lords after a lengthy appeal process.
A draft version of the new rules published in March suggested that schools would be allowed to outlaw certain religious dress in order to ensure proper learning, prevent bullying and maintain security on school grounds. But an extra paragraph inserted in the revised version makes it clear there is no automatic right to ban veils. It states that the judgment against the 12-year-old girl and two other similar cases do not imply schools can impose a blanket ban.
Tory MP Paul Goodman, whose Wycombe constituency includes the school challenged in court over its policy on the niqab, said the guidance had been weakened by the Human Rights Act, which provides for “the right to education and to manifest religious beliefs”.

The veil isn’t oppressive? Give me break!
7th century customs don’t apply today. The only reason they wore a veil 1400 years ago is because they were desert nomads. mohamad pulled all kinds of customs and traditions from the region of his time. Move the fuck into this decade!

The only reason the veil is pushed in the west, is so that sharia and islam becomes more and more common place. Slowly but surely replacing all things western. I for one will not stand for it.

How does it oppress a woman if she wishes to cover her body and hair from the wanton gaze of men who are porn-addicts and adulterers and generally depraved? i.e. from modern Western men…
Christian women wore the hearscarf long after the seventh century. To cover one’s head is a universal phenomenon, observed across many, many centuries and in all corners of the world. There is nothing inherently unnatural about modesty.

“generally depraved? i.e. from modern Western men…”
I’ll show you depravity and it is not by western men.
October 5, 2007 at 11:23 pm |
Are you saying that modern Western culture is not depraved in relation to the female body? Is it not depraved to have images of naked women adorn every billboard in site? Every television screen? Have you ever stopped and thought about the sheer number of near-naked flesh you see every day of your life?
What is unhealthy about girls not wishing to partake in such behaviour? Who have no desire to expose their arms and legs and hair to men on the streets.

We are not all like that. There are many decent moral Americans who do not go for the sexual exploitation in media etc. It is the free wheeling liberal left who is to blame. You know the ones, your allies. The appeasers . So if you have a gripe, then take it up with them.
Oh and what about the rapes against western women in Europe? The numbers are astonishing!
I like the middle ground of freedom but not depravity as do many. And am against the other side of the spectrum as well, of no freedom at all. One wants what one can not have. Sexual repression in islam is a leading factor to the raping of western women.
And oh my God, how can a womans hair turn a man on? Give me a break. If y’all like to be pious and modest to such a degree you cover your selves up. Then you should practice that custom in an islamic country. Folks in the west like things the way they are/were. We should not have to change our home to suit guests.
It is arrogant and frankly not fair at all. Either assimilate or move on out.

Oh and
There is not naked women adorning every billboard in sight. There are not any billboards that show naked women.
All men do not look at porn.
Naked people are not on every tv show.

Janice, sweet hypocrite Janice. The first time you`ve come to this site and told me that it was a very good site and that you liked it so much. I don`t know why you did that but I think it was because you wanted me to add you to my “Blogroll list” but I didn`t do that. A few days later, I found you coming here swearing and calling names.
Well, no modest woman calls names and use bad words when she is speaking and trying to make a point. The moment you say a bad word, you`re undermining everything you say because filthy tongues cannot be believed.
Look at your comment here on this post and read the “four”-letter word you said. The next time you say such a word or any other bad word here in my blog, I will, without hesitation, delete your comments because this is not a place for the likes of you.

Velvethammer,
I checked out your blog and I gotta tell you that I was shocked seeing all those sites offending and insulting Islam on your blogroll.
Velvethammer, you are a living proof of brainwashed human beings.
Ok, this is not the time for this but I really wanna ask you a question
Why do Christian Nuns wear veil?
October 6, 2007 at 6:08 pm |
Zanjabil, thank you for what you`ve said and Jazak Allah Khairan for standing up for what you believe in.

Another question for Velvethammer:
You tell Muslims to “go home”. What about the vast numbers of Muslims who are white natives of the land they inhabit? Are they not “home” already?

America isn’t even occupied by its real occupants. How can you truly define who is a guest or not?

Slowly but surely killing all things western? YO! Your ‘all things western’ killed the culture of Native Americans and don’t even make an effort to make ammends. How can you even talk about killing a culture?

If covering were freedom women and girls would not be attacked with acid and worst of all, murdered for not covering.
